The Opportunity

Are you a people-focused HR professional looking for an opportunity to make a genuine impact?

We’re working with an established organisation to recruit an HR Business Partner to join a friendly, collaborative team where people genuinely enjoy working together.

This is a varied, generalist HR role offering the opportunity to work closely with managers across the organisation, providing practical advice, coaching and support across a broad range of people-related matters. From employee relations and policy development to recruitment, learning and development, you’ll play an important role in helping managers build confidence, develop their teams and create a positive working culture.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated and keen to learn. You don’t need to know everything already, but you will bring a solid grounding in generalist HR, a proactive approach and a genuine desire to make a difference.

The Role

Working in partnership with managers across designated departments, you’ll provide a responsive and professional HR service, supporting both day-to-day people matters and longer-term organisational priorities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • HR Business Partnering: Building trusted relationships with managers, providing advice and guidance across the employee lifecycle and helping develop effective people management practices.
  • Employee Relations: Supporting managers with a range of employee relations matters, including performance, absence, conduct and capability, ensuring advice is fair, consistent and aligned with employment legislation and internal policies.
  • Coaching and Development: Coaching managers to build their confidence and capability, empowering them to manage their teams effectively and address issues at an early stage.
  • Recruitment and Selection: Supporting effective recruitment processes, from attraction and selection through to appointment, ensuring a positive candidate experience and adherence to safer recruitment and safeguarding requirements.
  • Learning and Development: Helping identify training needs and supporting the development and delivery of learning initiatives, including management, leadership and HR-related training.
  • Policies and Procedures: Contributing to the review, development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, ensuring they remain relevant, practical and legally compliant.
  • People Data and Reporting: Maintaining accurate people information, identifying trends and using data to support informed decisions and improvements.
  • Culture and Engagement: Supporting a positive, values-led working environment where people understand expectations, feel supported and are encouraged to perform at their best.

About You

We’re keen to hear from HR professionals who enjoy the variety of a generalist role and are looking for an opportunity to develop their skills and make a meaningful contribution.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A broad generalist HR background, with experience across areas such as employee relations, recruitment, policy and people management.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent, alongside relevant practical experience.
  • A sound understanding of UK employment law and good HR practice.
  • Experience of working with managers and stakeholders across different teams or departments.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to offer advice, guidance and constructive challenge.
  • A coaching mindset and an interest in helping managers develop their own skills and confidence.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to share ideas and look for ways to improve processes.
  • Strong digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, and an interest in developing your digital and AI capabilities.

Experience in learning and development, training delivery, coaching or policy development would be particularly beneficial. Experience of working in a unionised environment or within further or higher education would also be advantageous but is not essential.

What’s on Offer?

Alongside the opportunity to join a supportive team where collaboration and shared success are genuinely valued, the benefits package includes:

  • £41,000 starting salary
  • 22 Days annual leave plus 8 Bank Holidays, plus 5 local holidays, plus 5 efficiency days (after 4 full years basic entitlement is 25 days plus the others).
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
