Operational Accountant (Part-Time, Hybrid)

📍 Location: Blackburn (Hybrid)
🕓 Part-time | 24–28 hours per week (flexible)
💰 Salary: £15.93–£17.03 per hour (FTE £29,000–£31,000, dependent on experience)
🎓 Qualification: AAT Level 4 required


About the Role

Our client, a well-established and employee-owned organisation based in Blackburn, is seeking an experienced Operational Accountant to join their finance team. This is a varied, hands-on position ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of processes, delivering accurate financial reporting, and contributing to wider business goals in a collaborative and flexible working environment.

You’ll be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, including invoicing, reconciliations, and management accounts production — ensuring accuracy, insight, and efficiency across the finance function.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchase and sales invoicing processes end-to-end.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts with insightful commentary and variance analysis.

  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accuracy across ledgers.

  • Oversee aged debt management, ensuring timely recovery of outstanding payments.

  • Maintain bank, credit card, and petty cash reconciliations.

  • Ensure VAT compliance and timely submission of returns.

  • Support client reporting, rate card production, and annual audit preparation.

  • Liaise with clients and suppliers to maintain strong professional relationships.


About You

  • AAT Level 4 qualified (essential).

  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.

  • Comfortable managing a varied workload in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships.

  • Commercially aware and solutions-focused, with strong attention to detail.


Hours & Flexibility

  • 24–28 hours per week, with flexibility depending on workload.

    • Typically 24 hours per week for most of the year, rising to 28 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks annually (to support month-end).

  • Hybrid working available, with some on-site presence required — flexibility can be discussed.
